Tool #11

Some of my favorite tools are; Skype, Apps for the IPod and Digital Storytelling. I can see our school using all of these tools during the coming year. I am very interested in helping our students with their new IPods.

I always knew pre-schoolers could use technology easily and the new year will reallyshow us how much knowledge their have and how much they can learn.

One of the outcomes was how easily it became to go through each lesson, sometimes with a little help.

Tool #7

I can see how this could really be used in the rooms with films of the children and the teachers teaching a special lesson.

Once I knew where the site was the process was very easy and fun.

Reflections

Tool #11

For our very young children teaching technology good citizenship will be a daily lesson using modeling and good reminders.
The most important idea I would like the children to begin to learn is that nothing on the internet is ever private! This idea will carry through to adulthood with them.
The second idea would be about politeness. If they are at an IPod or the Netbooks, they should talk with their friends in a polite manner and help each other. These seem to be soooo basic, but it is what our little people need.
The last idea is that the children only do what their teacher instructs them to do and not to go exploring.
I truly believe the rules and citizenship is different for our children and we are just learning how to deal with them using all these new and exciting tools.

Tool 10

I was able to go to Panda Path where we had an introduction to the IPod and all the apps that their children were using. It was amazing to see the little 4 year olds using the IPods successfully and in a very learning way. I am looking forward to our little ones using the IPods this coming year.
Some of the apps I looked at were: the apple store apps which are very good! ABA Flash cards were good as they give the children the letter plus a real picture.I liked ABPhonics Animals Lite and the Houston Zoo apps also.
I have gone to the Apple store in the Galleria several times to "play" with the IPad which is most impressive. It's like your computer, parts of your IPhone and you IPod all in one instrument. The graphics you can pull up are tremendous. I have talked with several people who make their living with computers and they think IPads are here to stay. I guess I had better save my pennies for the 2nd generation

Tool 9

I can see how using screencast could help the teachers video a lesson on some of our basics, show it, and then save it for review or to show again next year. Teachers could trade their screencasts, giving the children a variety of teaching methods.

Skype would be a great way to converse with an author, another classroom, and children from different parts of the word. It would be great to use with parents as a new way of communicating.

I can see good possibilities in both programs for use in our classrooms.

Tool *8

WOW! We have been using streaming for science and social studies, but now to have all these sites will be great. I can see our teachers using the films for many units. Two that I found to be interesting to our school are:
You Tube.com/ Structures--"Houston Building Demolition"
blinkx.com search Bees "The Buzz on Bees"
Tool #6
After viewing Wikis I think that the teams at our 4 year old center could use them for passing on information to members of their teams and other teams. Some of the teachers are already passing on network information to enhance our units of study.

Tool #5

http://www.PBS.Kids.Org
http://www.coolmathgames.com

Using the delicious tags I find these two sites that look good for the teachers. The PBS would be a good site for science or social studies.

I can see how a community site for bookmarking would be great and a time saver for the teachers.

Tool #4

Just finished looking at all of googles sites. Will go back and keep exploring as time permits. I can see many areas that I will be using.

I can really see a use for Google Doc for me. As a SIS this site would make it so much easier to post data and other information that goes to all of the staff and have feedback in one place.

Google Reader would provide a place for frequently used sites with more ease. Many times our teachers of young children find and use early childhood sites for ideas, small books, music, and seasonal ideas. This will make it much easier for them when they only have to go to one place.

tool #3

I used Big Huge Labs for the magazine cover which was my picture of the "sharing tree" when Mr. and Mrs. Santa came to visit the children.

I used Comic Strip Generator for the cartoon about PreK. Both of these sites were fun and easy to use if you save your images to "my pictures" and use the photo icon in the tool bar. Simple.

Tool #2
I have used blogging for several years as a way of communicating with family and enjoy it. I think it will be a new, interesting way to communicate with our teachers and perhaps the school community.
While I listened to the comments and looked at the hot links the one very important thing that came to mind was "sharing". I think that is what blogging is all about. This class is giving everyone this path to sharing ideas, photos, events, etc. Great Class.
5 comments to: Baby Goat, Rainbow Ray, Hammer's PK, Spring Daffodils, and Bellas Orquideas. Hope to hear back from them.

Tool #1 blogging

Finally finished the first tool. Think I can best use this blog with the teachers.
